Gemmill Homes Review

Wow, anything else to say about the way Gemmill Homes stormed the market over the last 5 years is simply an understatement. Craig Gemmill has rolled out 13 amazing new display homes across Perth and 4 more in the South West. In doing so Gemmill have created a fantastic special range of homes that suit home buyers looking to spend less on their new home.

The companies mission statement clearly defines what Gemmill Homes are all about – “Our mission is to design and build high quality, affordable homes that not only meet but exceed the clients’ expectations”. This message goes hand in hand with their advertising campaign that can currently (Jan 2011) be seen on TV and heard on radio that claims ‘Craig Gemmill stands behind every home he builds’. I know a lot of buyers that really like a builder who stands behind their product, and Craig will definitely be popular for doing so.

It’s admirable that a small number of home builders across Perth build their brand on their personality and Craig is one of those home builders. He obviously has a great deal of pride in what his company is able to do and personally advocates his business and its practises. That should give home buyers some level of confidence building with such a large company where the owner is still involved in the day to day running of the company.

So what about the homes? Like most builders they offer a range of houses that are different in both form and function. Gemmill has created a contemporary feel to a number of homes however still has some throw backs to the tried and true traditional looks that have been popular in Perth for years. One such example is the Botanica display home which has an outback country feel with a wide verandah across the front of the home with wooden posts and beams for that ‘cottage’ or ‘colonial’ feel. Light cream bricks with a surfmist (white) colorbond roof is perfect for our warm climate and should suit the new energy efficiency requirements nicely.

In contrast to the Botanica is the Elegance, this display home is much more contemporary with a garage door that has a real ‘wow factor’ with lots of glass and an amazing feature wall lit up with up/down lights. This home has a really stylish colour scheme that is well suited to contemporary designs however there is something that isn’t quite right. One of the bedrooms returns to a period mood with pinstriped walls and traditional bed and side tables and chair – this room is out of place and looks wrong in this otherwise amazing home.

See the Elegance display home video below.

haven’t seen you standing behind my home, can’t help but feel left out once construction was finished and the balance paid to ghg. would love to speak with craig or someone higher up than my construction supervisor but seems impossible to get a hold of despite many attempts.
